The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (H.R. 1108) passed the House of Representatives on Wednesday by a vote of 326-102. This bill will grant the Food and Drug Administration regulatory authority over tobacco products and advertising. The bill now moves to the Senate where advocates will push for a vote on the Senate floor.
ANA has written about our strong opposition to the advertising aspects of the bill, pointing out the many constitutional issues that are raised by these provisions. Our most recent letter to the House of Representatives can be viewed at http://www.ana.net/advocacy/content/1320.
