Tara Sugiyama Potashnik serves as Chief Counsel in Venable’s eCommerce, Privacy, and Data Security Practice. She represents clients in the advertising, automotive, banking and consumer finance, communications, information services, Internet, marketing, media, and retail industries. Ms. Potashnik counsels clients on legislation and rulemaking proceedings, and advocates on behalf of clients in ongoing regulatory compliance and other matters before the U.S. Congress, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission, U.S. Department of Commerce, and state attorneys general. She advises clients on a wide array of regulatory compliance matters and on developments regarding the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act, gift card laws, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, federal and state UDAP laws, Song-Beverly Credit Card Act, state breach notification laws, and EU-U.S. Privacy Shield. She has also been involved in crisis management matters and the development of self-regulatory programs.
