III. THE LATEST FROM WASHINGTON & THE STATES (11:45 AM – 12:30 PM)
The midterms will be less than a month away, and control of Congress hangs in the balance. A shift in control in either the House or Senate could have a significant impact on the advertising industry. There has also been major action on privacy and data security in California and in the EU that could have substantial implications at the federal level. Meanwhile, there has been further activity in the courts on a number of key cases involving the commercial speech rights of marketers. ANA’s Dan Jaffe will provide an update on what to expect for the rest of 2018. Steve Carlson, ANA’s lobbyist in California, will also discuss the political situation around the California Consumer Privacy Act.

Steve Carlson, Steve Carlson and Associates

LUNCH (12:30 – 1:00 PM)

IV. ANA MARKETING FUTURES: WHEN INNOVATION MEETS REGULATION (1:00 - 1:45 PM)
Marketing has changed more in the past 10 years than it has in the previous 50, and brands are increasingly challenged in their efforts to keep up with the latest trends and technologies. But while marketers race to understand tech like Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence, they must also consider the legal ramifications of each “shiny object” they chase. The relationship between brand marketers and their legal counsel has never been more important.

Michael Berberich, ANA’s Director of Content Innovation, will discuss the resources Marketing Futures (and the larger Marketing Knowledge Center) offers to members, and share cases of marketers and legal counsel working together to deliver innovation without putting their brands at risk.

Speaker: Michael Berberich,
Director, Content Innovation, ANA
