II. Commercial Production Incentives (11:00 - 12:00 PST)
In an effort to stimulate local economies in the past several years, many U.S. states have passed legislation designed to lure television and film productions to their states. This legislation has taken the form of rebates or tax credits offered to producers which ranges from 5% to as much as 42% of the "qualified" expenditures in that state. The programs have been successful in building local resources in terms of stages, equipment and crews. Several, but not all, of these states extend the incentives to producers of commercials. The process to qualify for these incentives can be arduous, especially for commercials, and differs from state to state - which explains why so few advertisers have yet to take advantage of these financial benefits. But the benefits are compelling and the process can be managed. The Ease Incentives Office, experts in managing this process for film and television clients, also works with commercial productions and will explain both the process and benefits to advertisers.
Speaker: Jeff Begun, President - The Incentive Office
III. Lunch (12:15 - 1:30 PST)
4As 2008 TV Production Cost Survey
It is a year later but no further along what does the industry need.
IV. A New Production Business Model Explored - What your agencies won't likely be sharing with you.
Having direct relationships between advertisers and production companies has traditionally been verboten... and for a lot of good reasons. The traditional model now no longer exists as we know it. Social Media, Mobile, TV, Cable, Point of Purchase, Second Life, etc...What's a Marketer to do?
This session will feature a panel comprised of three top production companies including one digital. We will discuss the efficiencies of simultaneously producing across media silos, access to new creative talent, streamlining process, new budgeting techniques that might more mimic a film model than a commercial model, accountability from one entity, and access to the best talent for the project. We will also explore when an agency should be involved and when "An Uber Producer" based in the production world could be an alternative for you.
Moderators:
Shelley Landgraf, President and Founder - The Landgraf Group
Barry Rosen, President and Founder - Direct Focus
Panelists:
Tom Dunlap - RSA Films
Jerry Solomon - EPOCH films
Jason Harris - Mekanism.
