Another Patent Troll Bill Introduced

On July 22, 2013, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA, 49) and Representative Judy Chu (D-CA, 27) introduced the “Stopping Offensive Use of Patents Act,” H.R. 2766. This bill, which closely parallels Senator Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) bill introduced in May, will allow for post-grant review of a greater number of business method patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. These are the types of patents often used by so-called patent trolls to file patent infringement suits.
