Sourcing Manager II, Indirect Marketing Services

Job Summary and Mission 
The role contributes to Starbucks success by effectively developing and leading global sourcing strategies, effectively managing suppliers and internal networks to deliver best in class performance for the relevant spend area. Consistently delivers measurable and strategic goals to enable a competitive advantage to bottom-line and top-line company growth, and corporate social responsibility leadership. Collaborates effectively internally and with suppliers. Develops effective multi year negotiation strategies to enable success. Leads highly complex cross functional global sourcing teams. Manages a global spend of $200Million plus depending upon market complexity. May mentor or manage other procurement professionals.
Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
 
Summary of Key Responsibilities
This role is focused on the purchase of Marketing Categories including digital, media agency, creative agency, advertising agencies, consumer promotion, marketing technology,  marketing research and marketing services, and is responsible for the category management of sourcing initiatives and supplier relationships within the overall Marketing categories.  
 
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:  
 
Sourcing Strategy:  
  • Develops and maintains knowledge-base of the categories.
  • Develops a thorough strategic plan to drive value for their category based on an understanding of business unit needs, the supply market, spend baseline and evolution and benchmarking.
  • Research, select, develop and maintain adequate sources of supply to ensure that the requirements of the category are met with the optimum quality, service and cost to use.
  • Analyzes market and supply dynamics related to supplier proposals to develop a matrix of negotiation scenarios.
  • Develop effective multi-year negotiation strategies to enable success.
  • Leads the development of risk analyses, assessments and mitigation plans for the category.  Partner to manage supplier network to provide sufficient materials and services to meet our requirements, protect against supply interruptions and provide for long-range growth needs. 
  • Use specific market analysis to predict behavior and supply risks to the organization. May provide market analysis to internal stakeholders and advice to others within Sourcing.

Supplier Engagement and Management:  
 
  • Work with digital,  media agencies, advertising agencies, creative agencies, marketing technology vendors, agencies and suppliers.
  • Proactively interact with business units to develop, engage and lead supplier relationships for extracting the greatest value in cost, security of supply, risk management, sustainability and innovation.
  • Effectively manage and collaborate with suppliers and internal networks to deliver best in class performance for the relevant spend areas.
  • Employ strong knowledge of key global industry players, competitors and market dynamics.
  • Develop new effective business and professional relationships with strategic suppliers and industry players.
  • Professionally manage and measure suppliers for continuous performance and improvement.

  • Effectively partner and collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop robust category sourcing and supplier relationship management strategies.
  • Proactively interact with business units to develop, engage and lead supplier relationships for extracting the greatest value in cost, security of supply, risk management, sustainability and innovation.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Independently solve problems and make decisions for primary and strategic execution and tactical issues within the relevant portfolio of projects and or processes.  
  • Provide day to day oversight and perform a hands-on execution role.
Leadership and Teamwork:  
  • Effectively motivate and collaborate within team and across peer group. 
  • Lead using demonstrated and proven experience and the application of best practice procurement skills. 
  • Operate within peer group and leadership infrastructure to ensure that best practice and leverage opportunities are delivered.  
  • Lead cross functional teams, help mentor and develop Analysts.
 
Summary of Experience
  • 6+ years analytical, planning, procurement, supply chain or other relevant experience
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
    • Analytical: Advanced analytical skills
    • Procurement: Excellent knowledge of global market analysis, sourcing category strategy, supplier relationship management ‘should-cost’ models, and multi-year negotiation strategies, supplier continuous improvement programs/Lean Initiatives
    • Legal: Knowledge of critical procurement legal requirements and contracting best practices
    • Ethics: Knowledge of business ethics and Starbucks Ethical Sourcing Requirements
    • Influence: Ability to influence at an Executive Level both internally and externally. Ability to lead and influence peer groups both internally and externally
    • Communication: Exceptional communication both written and oral
    • Systems: Knowledge of Excel, Oracle, BI Apps, charting programs, PowerPoint, and others
