Agenda

I. TALENT PAYMENTS – AN UPDATE AND DEMONSTRATION (9:45-11:30)

As you are aware, the industry, SAG and AFTRA have commissioned Booz Allen Hamilton to study and develop alternate methods to compensate performers for their participation in commercials that appear on television and radio as well as in the growing array of new media.
The purpose of the study is to develop a new framework to govern payments in a media environment that has changed dramatically since the current contract’s framework was developed nearly six decades ago.
Gordon Wade, who has been retained by the industry through the ANA, will demonstrate BAH’s proposed new talent payment models and discuss the cost implications of the leading options.
Speaker: Gordon Wade, Chairman – EMM Group, Inc

II. MEMBER ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION(11:30 – 12:15)

ANA member roundtable discussions are great ways to share experiences and perspectives on specific topics, while learning from your peers from other companies.  We’ll discuss:

1. SAG AFTRA – The Divorce: How Will It Impact Us?
The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists' national board of directors voted on Saturday (March 29) to suspend its joint bargaining agreement with the Screen Actors Guild and negotiate its prime-time TV contract alone, with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

The two actors’ entities had a 27-year-old agreement to negotiate their TV and film contracts together as a leveraging tactic, but the relationship had soured after SAG's Hollywood contingent pushed to end the 50/50 voting arrangement for their joint negotiating committee. Still, in February, the two sides announced that they'd put aside their differences and committed to negotiating jointly, making the announcement of the split a complete surprise.

This event could impact us as advertisers especially if we face the prospect of two separate contract negotiations this fall. The committee will have an opportunity to discuss the situation, possible outcomes and appropriate planning for fall production.

2. Best Practices for Web Content Development
As this committee is often very TV-centric, we’ll have an open discussion / benchmarking session related to best practices for Internet content development.

III.  MUSIC, TALENT, AND THE FUTURE OF BRANDED ENTERTAINMENT (1:15-2:15)

Lloyd Simon, entertainment attorney and CEO of Production Advisors, will discuss the role of popular music and talent as marketing tools. This presentation will explore a broad range of topics that includes negotiating music and talent for marketing efforts as well as intellectual property and related licensing issues. Lloyd will provide a firsthand look at what goes into creating successfully branded marketing campaigns through case studies that assess industry successes and milestones. As a major force behind the successes with Target, Mitsubishi, and Jaguar's breakthrough campaign featuring Sting, Lloyd will discuss the reasons why these campaigns have been so successful and how they have developed their corporations' brands. He will also explain how advertisers can best secure rights for new and future technologies, including ringtones. Finally, Lloyd will touch on the future of the music in advertising as well as new obstacles and opportunities that exist for Marketers and Creatives.
Speaker: Lloyd Simon, CEO - Production Advisors
