House Energy and Commerce Committee Reports Tobacco Bill

April 3, 2008

The U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee has favorably reported H.R. 1108, the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, to the full House.  The final vote was 38-12, with 11 Republicans joining the Democratic majority.

ANA has written to the committee describing our opposition to several advertising provisions in the bill.  You can read more about the markup on Dan Jaffe's Regulatory Rumblings blog.

The House is expected to take up the bill relatively quickly.  A companion version (S. 625) awaits floor action in the Senate.
