Mark has helped drive GenMills growth despite continued heavy price promotion activity among CPGs; during its 2011 fiscal first quarter the company reported 13% growth in net earnings.  This growth was fueled by increased marketing (advertising and media expenditures rose 8% during the quarter) behind recent product launches and existing brand support - this incremental effort helped drive a 2% increase in U.S. retail sales on top of 6% sales growth in last year's first quarter.
