Amy Barone is the senior director of events and customer engagement programs for Tableau. Under her leadership, her team curates, creates and manages hundreds of in-person programs around the globe. The lineup includes producing the company’s marquee event, the Tableau Conference, which has grown more than 60% year-over-year since the program debuted 10 years ago. Ms. Barone credits her success to understanding the underlying goals and objectives for each set of events and working with her team to solve those “probortunities” (problems plus opportunities) with creativity, innovation and a dash of good-old, rolling-up-the-sleeves problem solving. Her mantra is that an event is not just an event, but an experience to be had, felt and, most of all, remembered. Amy joined Tableau over 11 years ago as the first person on the marketing team. Her efforts in building high-impact demand-generation programs and events contributed to Tableau’s hypergrowth period, culminating in the company’s IPO in 2013. Prior to Tableau and marketing for other startups, Ms. Barone was a rock-and-roll show producer, a stringer for MTV and did a stint in radio promotions. Amy currently serves on the advisory boards for PSAV and Choose Chicago, and previously for Alaska Airlines and Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc.
