Genie Barton

Genie Barton oversees the Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program, which monitors the advertising supply chain for compliance with the Digital Advertising Alliance’s self-regulatory principles. She created the Accountability Program in 2010. Previously, Ms. Barton was vice president and general counsel at USTelecom, where her focuses were consumer protection issues, including privacy and online advertising, and legal issues, including broadband classification and network management. Ms. Barton’s 15-year career in government service included serving as senior counsel in the FCC’s Wireless Communications Bureau; solicitor to the board of directors of the U.S. Congress’s Office of Compliance; and legislative counsel to NIST, NTIA, and the PTO in the Department of Commerce’s Office of the General Counsel. Ms. Barton holds an undergraduate degree in English language and literature with first class honors from the University of Oxford and is a summa cum laude graduate of the George Washington University College of Law.
