Brian A. Cowart was named Chief Development Officer for the more than 1 million-member DAV (Disabled American Veterans) effective June 18, 2012.
His office is located at DAV National Headquarters in Cold Spring, Kentucky near Cincinnati, Ohio.
Cowart is responsible for the oversight of all fundraising efforts of the DAV and affiliated organizations. This includes fundraising programs utilizing direct-mail marketing, online campaigns, planned giving, major gifts and corporate giving as the source of substantial and significantly increasing revenue streams to support DAV programs.
Cowart has lived across the United States, growing up in Illinois, New York, Washington, D.C., and Texas, finally settling in Atlanta, where he attended high school. After graduating, he enrolled at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce in 1993.
Cowart’s fundraising career began at CARE in 1999. He comes to DAV from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee where he served as Senior Director of Mail Acquisition and Donor Retention and Senior Vice President of National Direct Marketing.
Cowart currently serves as a board member for Camp Corral. He also is a former member of the DMA Board, the Chair Emeritus of the Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit Federation’s Advisory Board, and former Chair of the Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit Federation’s Government Affairs Committee. In addition, he was the recipient of Target Marketing Magazine’s 2011 Direct Marketer of the Year Award and a previous recipient of Fundraising Success Magazine’s Fundraising Professionals of the Year Award.
Cowart’s DAV Auxiliary membership eligibility is through his deceased father, a U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea.
Cowart’s spouse Angela is a veteran of the Air Force Reserve, and they have three children.
