Alex Ebanks is the vice president of communications at ESSENCE Ventures, overseeing all executive, external, and internal communications across the company’s portfolio of brands, including ESSENCE Communications Inc, AFROPUNK, Beautycon, and ESSENCE Studios.
Prior to joining ESSENCE, Ms. Ebanks spearheaded the consumer PR and multicultural communications disciplines on the global communications team for Xbox at Microsoft, where she led global gaming public relations initiatives and strategy for the brand. For five years, she served in various PR roles at the Coca-Cola Company, working across external announcements, launches, and activities, both globally and in the flagship North America (U.S. and Canada) business unit, for the Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and Sprite brands. Additional experience includes several years at top PR agency Allied Global Marketing, where she strategically managed and created publicity, promotions, and marketing campaigns both nationally and regionally for entertainment-based clients in television and film.
As a proud HBCU graduate from Spelman College, Ms. Ebanks received her B.A. in English with a minor in writing and received her M.B.A. from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. She was recently named to the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 40 Under 40 List of 2023, which spotlights the city’s top business professionals, and was selected as a Top 40 Under 40 PR professional in Georgia in 2020. In 2017, she was named a Top 30 Under 30 HBCU Alumni, on behalf of HBCU Buzz. Ms. Ebanks is a current member of the leadership team for the LEAD Atlanta class of 2024 serving as social co-chair and a board member for Women in Film & Television — Atlanta, and serves on the executive committee of the Hands on Atlanta Changemakers board. She was previously a member of the Public Relations Society of America’s National Diversity & Inclusion Committee and a graduate of the LEAD Atlanta class of 2022.
