Tom Gilbertsen is a trial and appellate attorney solving competition, intellectual property, and consumer protection challenges for leading financial institutions and consumer product companies in federal and state courts across the country. Mr. Gilbertsen also defends clients responding to investigations by the FTC, the United States Department of Justice, the International Trade Commission, and state attorneys general. He defended one of the earliest class actions challenging behavioral advertising platforms, and since that time has successfully represented national banks and other financial institutions, leading publishers, call centers, and trade associations defending class actions and enforcement proceedings that challenge a variety of privacy and data security practices. Mr. Gilbertsen is a partner in Venable’s Washington, D.C., office, and prior to joining the firm in 2010 he was a partner at Collier Shannon Scott for 10 years. He is a graduate of Cornell Law School, and began his legal career as an associate and then partner in the Washington, D.C. firm Howrey & Simon.
