In January 2018, Julian Hooks was appointed to the new position of chief procurement officer, corporate tier for Johnson & Johnson (J&J), based in New Jersey. This role leads all of procurement’s centers of excellence, including: supplier diversity, sustainability, risk management, process and performance management, and leadership development. The corporate tier is responsible for architecting advanced capabilities, new processes and leveraging digital technologies. Mr. Hooks will enable J&J procurement to be a leader in innovation and sustainability, as well as developing the next generation of procurement leadership. Prior to this, Julian served for five years as global chief procurement officer for J&J’s consumer and consumer medical device companies. In addition, he has been responsible for the marketing category, leading cross-business teams in media, agencies, professional education, strategic insights, marketing operations, sales and distributor services. Prior to 2012, Mr. Hooks was based in the United Kingdom with senior procurement roles supporting both the J&J EMEA pharma and consumer businesses. Before joining Johnson & Johnson, he worked for the Mars, Inc. business across a broad range of functions. Julian holds a chemistry degree with first-class honors from York University in the U.K. and he also worked a year for Shell Research Ltd. as a research chemist.
