John McFarland is the National VP of News, Content and Editorial at the American Heart Association. He joined the AHA after a long career in journalism, mostly as a supervising editor at The Associated Press in Dallas covering breaking news, sports, business and features. John also worked at The Dallas Morning News as an assistant metro editor, a sports copy editor and the night editor on the state desk. John also was a copy editor at The Spokesman-Review in his hometown of Spokane, Washington. He joined the AHA in 2010, developing and editing a wide variety of content. John’s team led the AHA’s foray into content marketing in 2012. That work soon evolved into a syndicated news outlet that sends daily health stories and profiles nationwide via The Associated Press news wire and distribution through HealthDay, which bills itself as the largest distributor of online consumer health news.
