Steve Metalitz

Steve Metalitz is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp LLP. For nearly 20 years, he has advised trade associations and companies in the film, music, software, videogame and publishing industries on domestic and international copyright and anti-piracy matters. Besides intellectual property, his practice also focuses on privacy and e-commerce issues. Steve has represented coalitions of copyright industry organizations with regard to several of the major legislative initiatives of the past two decades, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. As long-time counsel to the International Intellectual Property Alliance, he also represents the premier coalition of U.S. copyright industry organizations seeking strengthened copyright law and enforcement worldwide. He is currently vice president of the Intellectual Property Constituency of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), having previously served seven terms as its president. Previously, he was General Counsel to the Information Industry Association, and held senior staff positions in the U.S. Senate, including Chief Counsel and Staff Director of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Patents, Copyrights and Trademarks. Steve is a graduate of the University of Chicago and  earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
