Michael Plaut
Vice President, Assistant General Counsel and Director of Advertising Legal Services

Michael Plaut is Vice President, Assistant General Counsel and Director of Advertising Legal Services at the Interpublic Group of Companies, which he joined in 1996. He and his legal team provide day-to-day counsel to advertising, PR, media, digital, event and other agencies servicing many of the world’s largest advertisers, concentrating on advertising, media, branded content and technology, including social and digital media, trademark, copyright and publicity rights, talent agreements, services agreements, talent union issues, music licensing, software licensing, app development, mobile marketing, litigation and many other matters. He also works directly with The Martin Agency, Deutsch/Lowe, afg& and ICC Lowe (health care).  

Prior to joining Interpublic, Michael was Senior Partner at J. Walter Thompson USA where he managed the day-to-day legal relationships between agency and numerous domestic and multinational clients, media, talent, music publishers, record companies and other licensors, and advised senior agency management on diverse legal matters including employment, litigation and union matters, as well as assessing business risks and agency strategies and their financial effects and impact on client relationships.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University and a J.D. from Fordham Law School.
