Paroma Sanyal

Dr. Paroma Sanyal co-leads The Brattle Group’s Telecommunications, Media & Entertainment Practice. She is an expert on consumer protection, data privacy, competition, and intellectual property, where much of her practice focuses on matters in the telecom industry. She also advises on telecom regulation, spectrum policy, and issues concerning broadband data. Prior to joining Brattle, Dr. Sanyal was the Chief Economist of the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) Wireless Telecommunications Bureau.

Drawing on her deep industry experience, Dr. Sanyal frequently advises clients on labeling, infringement, and data breach claims and merger analyses in the telecom sector. She also consults on FCC regulatory issues in fixed and mobile broadband and on spectrum auctions, spectrum value, and spectrum availability. She has an active pro bono practice, which includes analyses on just and reasonable rates for inmate calling services for the Martha Wright Petitioners before the FCC.

Dr. Sanyal regularly publishes and presents at conferences on a myriad of consumer protection, competition, intellectual property, and telecom topics for the ABA Antitrust Section, Consumer Policy International, TPRC, and Law360, in addition to her contributions to peer-reviewed journals such as the Review of Industrial Organization, The Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Economics and Business, The Energy Journal, Journal of Regulatory Economics, The Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, International Review of Economics and Finance, and Review of Development Economics.

Dr. Sanyal received her PhD in Economics from the University of California, Irvine.
