Dr Martin Soppe advises companies in copyright- and media law-related issues, in license, entertainment and advertisement law and on digitizing their business models.
He focuses on copyright law and licensing agreements in the media sector. He has special expertise in entertainment law related matters, in the area of libel and privacy and in press distribution law.
Martin has been dealing with questions of advertisement law, including unfair competition law, the law of contracts of media planning and advertising agencies for many years. Moreover, he has extensive experience in compliance matters in the media industry.
For more than fourteen years, Martin was working in-house at Gruner + Jahr, a leading European publishing company, where he was Deputy General Counsel for nine years. During his career Martin was dealing with all legal matters of an international media company.
Since joining Osborne Clarke Martin advises and represents companies especially in media (commercial) law related issues in the broadest sense, in entertainment and advertising law and in matters of libel and privacy.
Martin studied law in Hannover and Geneva and completed his clerkship in Hamburg and New York. He worked as a research assistant at the Max-Planck Institute for Foreign and International Private Law in Hamburg and participated in Executive Education programmes at the INSEAD and at Harvard Business School.
Martin served as Vice President of the Hamburg Bar for twelve years and chaired the Hamburg Bar’s Committee for the Certification of Copyright and Media Law Lawyers. He is a board member of the Association of Publishing House Counsels and a former chairman of the Legal Committee of the Association of German Magazine Publishers. Moreover, Martin publishes regularly on sector-specific issues.
