Karen Starns
General Manager, Consumer Marketing / Bing and MSN, Microsoft

Karen is the marketing leader for Bing and MSN responsible for advertising, brand strategy, social, online video, branded integration, digital, SEM, rewards program, and in-product engagement. She developed and drove the "Bing it On" Google compete campaign, the most effective marketing campaign in the history of Bing -- achieving more than 25 million visits to bingiton.com and driving measurable impact on perception and search share.

In 12 years at Microsoft, Karen has worked in four distinct areas of the business - SMB Marketing, Brand Strategy, Global Advertising, and Consumer Marketing - across emerging and established brands including Microsoft, Bing, MSN, Dynamics, Office, Exchange, Windows, and Windows Phone.

Prior to joining Microsoft, she led North America Marketing for Great Plains Software (acquired by Microsoft in 2001), was responsible for global marketing planning and communications in the Storage Division of Compaq Computer, and held several other roles in SMB tech marketing organizations.

During 20+ year career, she’s developed expertise in a wide range of marketing disciplines including advertising and media, brand strategy, demand generation, CRM, digital marketing, strategic partnerships, channel programs, loyalty programs, and product launches.

In the past few years, Karen has worked for two Microsoft CMOs - Mich Mathews and Chris Capossela - and partnered with top leaders in brand, advertising and media at Crispin, Porter + Bogusky, Deutsch NY, Razorfish, JWT NY, R/GA, Wunderman, McCann Erickson, Interbrand, Sterling Brands, Wolff Olins, Starcom Media Group, and Universal McCann.
