Katherine (Katie) Riley Townley is an associate in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Her practice focuses on advertising and marketing, privacy and information security, product safety and other consumer protection law matters. Ms. Townley drafts privacy policies to address current and future information collection and use, and advises clients on compliance with federal and state privacy and data security laws. She also assists clients with the development and implementation of social media platforms and programs, as well as mobile apps and games, that comply with consumer protection and privacy laws. In the area of information security, Katherine evaluates clients’ compliance with federal, state and PCI requirements relating to the storage, transfer, sharing and disposal of customer personal information. She drafts information security provisions for contracts with service providers and has experience drafting data security breach incident response plans to help businesses navigate their obligations under state data breach notification statutes. Additionally, Katie provides advice to retailers on compliance with federal and state privacy laws addressing information collection at the point-of-sale, both online and in retail stores, as well as the collection and use of consumer information obtained through social media, mobile applications, sweepstakes and contests, and the use of tracking technologies.
