WELCOME REMARKS AND INTRODUCTIONS (10:00 – 10:15 a.m.)

I. WHAT TO EXPECT IN WASHINGTON FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR (10:15 – 11:00 a.m.)
It’s now been six months with unified Republican control over the government. Will tax reform still happen this year – and will the ad deduction get thrown into the mix? What does new leadership at the FTC and FCC mean for regulation going forward? Will we see privacy legislation advance? Dan Jaffe will discuss where things are right now and where things could be going as we head into the August recess.

Speaker:  Dan Jaffe, Group EVP, Government Relations, ANA

II.  PROGRESS – AND SETBACKS – FOR COMMERCIAL SPEECH IN THE COURTS (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
While the San Francisco and Berkeley compelled disclosure cases continue to make their way through the Ninth Circuit, just recently in another case, the same court seemed to weaken the protections afforded commercial speech. Also, the Supreme Court, at the end of its 2016 term, issued an important decision over “offensive” trademarks. Bob-Corn Revere will provide an update on these cases and what it might mean for the industry.

Speaker:  Bob Corn-Revere, Partner, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP

III.  FINDING CLARITY ON TRANSPARENCY (12:00 – 12:30 p.m.)
While the industry has made some progress since the release of the K2 report a year ago, more needs to be done to improve transparency in the media industry. Most significantly, recent ANA data shows more than 50% of the industry remains either unaware of the issue or is failing to adequately respond. ANA’s General Counsel Doug Wood, fresh off addressing the transparency issue in Cannes, will discuss what the industry can do to increase transparency in their agreements with their agencies.

Speaker:  Doug Wood, Partner, Reed Smith LLP

LUNCH (12:30 – 1:00 p.m.)

IV.  LEGAL ISSUES IN SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENTS (1:00 – 2:00 p.m.)
Corporate sponsorship of major events such as the Olympics and the World Cup are a big deal for many advertisers. What are the types of problems that arise in these agreements, and what should you know before signing on the dotted line? Chris Sloan of Liberty Mutual will provide his perspective on the issues.

Speaker:  Chris Sloan, AVP & Senior Corporate Counsel, Liberty Mutual

MEETING ENDS (2:00 p.m.)
