ANA Joins Letter to California Assembly on Online Privacy Bill

ANA, along with the IAB and the 4A’s, have sent a letter to the California Assembly regarding AB 370, a bill introduced by Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance).  AB 370 would require website operators to disclose in their privacy policy whether or not they comply with a browser’s signal (or other similar mechanism) to disable “online tracking.”

Our letter states our concerns with the definition of “online tracking” and of “personally identifiable information” in the bill, the undue burden that it would place on California businesses, and the effect on website operators that would have to disclose that they are not honoring browser signals to disable online tracking. The letter also shares information about the advertising industry’s Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA), which embraces the goal of transparency and consumer choice.
