Legal Center of Excellence (COE)

The purpose of the Legal Center of Excellence (COE) is to review and help strategize the programs, products and services for members. The COE helps to create and plan new and existing programs, products and services, and to address current hot-button issues demanding the attention of the industry.

The Legal COE has been active in working with legal members in building out a whole series of events and programs beyond its signature/industry annual ANA/BAA Marketing Law Conference. These include in-house counsel Share Groups, held on-site at the offices of a brand marketer at which in-house counsel discuss topics of interest to them, regional breakfasts, Member Only Conferences and webinars.

The Legal COE is also involved with the Legal Committee's monthly presentation, providing the opportunity for a different law firm each month to present a fully detailed presentation and review of the leading regulatory, statutory and case law developments. The topics addressed include Federal and State Regulation, Federal and State legislation of interest to the industry and case law, NAD/CARU, Lanham Act, False Advertising, Privacy, Social and  Digital Media, I.P. and consumer class actions. The presenting firm prepares an approximately 50 page power point, which is distributed to the attendees and subsequently posted online to all members. The Government and Legal Affairs Committee is open to all applicants.

Members of the COE also have the opportunity to participate as well in filing position papers with governmental agencies, including FTC and FCC, on issues of importance. The Legal COE has a small membership that consists of 20-30 participants.
