Position description

The Email Manager leads the strategy and health of Operation Smile's email program.  Through the development and execution of brand and fundraising in email, he/she is responsible for the tactical growth of the email list and associated revenue. Key responsibilities include day-to-day management of mass market fundraising email goals to include: identifying and optimizing key conversion funnels, developing and executing campaign plans and go-to-market strategies for digital marketing and fundraising initiatives, interpreting and sharing digital paid media results, and managing project resourcing, budget and timelines.  

 

Responsibilities:  
  • Develops and manages email strategy for all Operation Smile stakeholder groups with an analytics informed approach to considering deliverability, frequency, design, content, and conversion. 
  • Manages email marketing initiatives, programs, and campaigns to reach and engage target segments across digital channels.
  • Leads the email marketing team, providing team members with direction, information and support, to help them accomplish team goals. 
  • Develops and oversees the donor lifecycle and journey as it relates to acquisition, on-boarding, cultivation/engagement and retention from donors acquired via email.
  • Collaborate with key cross-functional teams to ensure campaign alignment and integration, including but not limited to other fundraising channels, community fundraising initiatives, communication plans and supporter engagement.
  • Develop annual strategic plan and budget for the email program, including annual revenue goals, expense projections and acquisition goals. 
  • Analyze campaign, monthly and quarterly reports to find channel insights and help the Digital Marketing team identify optimization tactics and adjustments to strategy. 
  • Develop and Implement testing and optimization plans.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Mass Market Fundraising and outside agency partners to develop, design, implement, and evaluate digital fundraising programs for the purpose of driving revenue growth through donor acquisition and retention. 
  • Manages, analyzes and improves online list growth efforts including paid acquisition, cross promotions, and advertising. 

 

 

Knowledge & Skills: 
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience as the manager/coordinator of medium to large scale online fundraising program. Proven experience with successful use of direct marketing techniques. Hands-on experience with email and digital campaigns. 
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience with donor conversion, upgrade and retention strategies; email list growth strategies; and digital advertising or retargeting campaigns. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including experience writing and editing direct response and web copy. 
  • Experience executing peer-to-peer fundraising a plus. 
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work on several projects at once while meeting tight deadlines. 
  • Proficient in HTML, spreadsheets and word processing. Experience with enterprise level email marketing and fundraising platforms. Experience with Luminate Online a plus. 
  • Highly creative, with experience in understanding target audiences and developing digital campaigns that inspire, engage, and inform.  
  • Experience working in collaboration with a creative team, as well as with diverse stakeholder-clients across an organization.  
  •  Active interest in evolving digital landscape, marketing trends, and best practices in online marketing and measurement, with ability to evaluate emerging platforms for possible adoption within the context of an overall business strategy.
