PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Head of Global Brand Design (GBD) is an energetic change leader with deep expertise across traditional and emerging design disciplines.  They are a leader with authority and credibility drawing on strong design experience that evangelizes design at T. Rowe Price through strong design direction, talent development and cross-functional training and collaboration. The GBD directly leads a team of 10-15 designers (animation, information, video, graphic, environmental and CX/digital) who shape the overall brand personality and brand expression for the firm.  This position is accountable for developing and evolving the overall global design strategy; developing and influencing campaign concepts, developing talent on their team, leading cross-functional teams of decentralized and matrixed design organizations and design communities, and representing the design perspective within the greater organization. The role is a key member of Brand leadership team -- a creative leader that elevates the influence of design thinking for T. Rowe Price, and creates standards, systems and tools to guide creative team members, marketers, and a broad set of associates. 

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Head of Global Brand Design (GBD) coaches, directs and guides the development of brand design team members who create experiences that instill confidence in our investors and communities.   
 
This position leads overall training and design capability development to address skill gaps and modernize our design approaches.  The Head of GBD is responsible for brand onboarding, training and brand review for designers joining the team and is a primary liaison and consultant to design/creative agencies. 

The Head of GBD understands the importance of a consistent and compelling brand presence and experiences; and leads the application and activation strategy of T. Rowe Price’s brand expression inspiring teams:  marketers, segment creatives, associates, etc. to extend it in consistent and resonant ways across the globe.  The position identifies and incorporates trends in design and technology into everyday work with measurable results. 

The Head of GBD leads teams to find compelling ways to visualize and communicate investment product, retirement and service features, leveraging animation, digital experiences, data visualization and illustration. 

The Head of GBD develops, manages, and governs design systems (design principles, templates, components, and best practices) that guide an organization’s design efforts.   The position partners with Global Distribution Enablement & Operations to align around their work on digital design systems. The position will create forums for embedded/segment team members to come together to ensure democratization and accessibility of design activities and efforts.  
 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • College degree and 8 years of related work experience
  • Associate degree and 10 years related work experience, or  • High School diploma/equivalent and 12 years related work experience 
  •  An approach to work that sets clear expectations and offers positive encouragement.
  • Excellent relationship building/management skills
  • Outstanding design skills, and a portfolio of work with recent examples to share
  • Knowledge of how to use research, qualitative and quantitative testing, and design iteration to understand client/user motivations and behaviors
  • Clear verbal, presentation and written communication skills
  • Ability to listen to complex ideas and distill them into easy to understand concepts
  • Ability to manage multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously
  • Strong leadership skills and experience leading designers toward a shared vision
  • Experience being successful at using agile marketing methodology 
 
Preferred 
  • Bachelor’s degree with 10 -12 years of progressively increasing responsibility in an advertising agency, graphic design firm, OR in an in-house agency or marketing department.  
  • Advanced degree • Background in financial services marketing, and specifically in asset management marketing
