JOB SUMMARY:

The Executive Creative Director (ECD) is responsible for leading the development of UOR Brand communications by driving team inspiration for creative concepting and overseeing production of creative execution.

This includes leadership of the in-house creative department and managing external creative agencies and production resources to ensure work achieves outstanding quality and a consistent brand voice across multiple disciplines.

  • The ECD has an Entrepreneurial spirit and vision for building a World Class internal creative department, to support integrated marketing communications, which brings increased equity to the Universal Orlando brand.
  • The ECD will partner with the Brand Communications team to create work to meet the needs of all marketing communications disciplines such as branding, ecommerce, digital/mobile media, advertising, video content, public relations and promotions.
  • The ECD is responsible for achieving the highest quality creative output from a team that is inspired by both the vision and passion of the ECD.
  • The ECD is responsible for assembling a team of top creative talent and for their development and retention including identifying growth opportunities for Team Members teaching, mentoring and setting team up for success.
  • The ECD is responsible for establishing and cultivating an environment where creativity and ideation can flourish.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT:
  • Acts as the Business Leader and Creative Catalyst who will lead the development and execution of Universal Orlando Resort (UOR) Brand marketing communications.
  • Champions brand positioning at each point of communications, upholding standards of creative integrity and maintaining a consistent brand voice.
  • Manages the Creative Services Department team including In-Line and Online Creative and Production Studio teams in the development of the creative strategy, brand communication and campaign options.
  • Inspires/produces fresh, compelling creative output that adds to the UOR customer experience and builds brand differentiation.
  • Supports and upholds the integrity of the creative/production work flow process to ensure creative recommendations meet the requirements of Brand stakeholders
  • Manages key administrative and financial aspects of the creative department, working with VP, MarComm Operations and HR departments.
  • Oversees development of department policies and systems to support strategic, financial and organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to present creative recommendations to stakeholders/executive management.
INSPIRE DEPARTMENT COLLABORATION:
  • Cultivates a Creative Culture that is committed and passionate about collaboration, creativity, and empowering associates to thrive.
  • Assigns /assembles internal to department teams with optimum organizational structure to provide effective, efficient development of creative recommendations
  • Partners with the MarComm executive team to maintain trust and collaboration between the Creative and Brand departments to deliver the strategic impact and quality of the work.
STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Leads strategic ideas and innovative thinking to enable communication objectives and stimulate higher-level ideas, and creative messaging that differentiates UO brand.
  • Teams with executive management, Brand, IMCD, and Sales leaders to develop long-term and short-term strategies related to brand vision, customer engagement and experience, marketing and other related communications initiatives.
  • Effectively communicates the strategic vision and voice of the brand in all business.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP/COLLABORATION:
  • Collaborates and teams appropriately with colleagues across functions in Marketing/Sales, and key client stakeholders to create and translate creative briefs into smart, measurable creative strategies and communications. Builds strong, collaborative business partnerships with key clients, agencies and service providers.
  • Teams with operations and functional team managers to continue to refine workflow processes to better meet high-volume, high-quality program demands.
VENDOR MANAGEMENT:
  • Identifies and oversees utilization of specific vendor partners in: Broadcast/film, editing, CGI, Design, Copywriting and production of creative content in high value /strategic projects.
BUDGET & PROCESS MANAGEMENT TOOLS:
  • Manages department budget.
SCOPE:

 The ECD will oversee teams of creative directors, associate creative directors and the head of the Production Studio. Both manager and practitioner, the EDC ensures the team is inspired and focused while playing a major role in the development of an overall creative strategy and innovative solutions for UOR brand communication, and campaigns. Partners with cross-divisional teams and is part of the management team within the Marketing and Sales organization.

EDUCATION: 

Bachelor’s degree in communications-related field from a four-year college or university in marketing/advertising, design thinking, or related field or equivalent experience required.

EXPERIENCE: 

The ideal candidate possesses 12+ years of experience in a creative field, with a minimum of 8+ years of creative management/leadership experience directing the talents of teams and individual contributors. Preferably with a combination of agency provider experience and corporate, in house agency leadership experience.

Industry: The ideal candidate has previous experience with experience-based brands, destination, travel, tourism, hospitality or retail engagement businesses on a national, global scale.

Media: The ideal candidate has experience with a wide array of integrated media including online, broadcast, print, outdoor and events/displays; Understanding of all aspects of print and interactive /digital design and production.
