Convention Marketing Manager

Job Description:

Visit Orlando is now recruiting for a full-time Convention Marketing Manager. The Convention Marketing Manager works in conjunction with the Director of Marketing to create a B2B marketing strategies and programs to assist and support the Convention Sales & Services department in meeting their objectives. Primary focus is the management of Visit Orlando’s advertising and marketing programs for the meetings and convention industry including development and integration of the brand image and messaging into all aspects of the department’s sales efforts.



1.            Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and working within the associated budget, develop an annual meetings and convention marketing plan to achieve Visit Orlando’s strategic plan and objectives.


2.            Work in partnership with Director and brand creative and media agencies to develop convention marketing brand strategy, co-op programs, creative and media plans.


3.            Lead advertising campaigns and work with ad agency and media reps to implement brand and co-op media plans and evaluate results to ensure effectiveness.


4.            Oversee execution of Convention Co-op ad programs and work with participating member organizations as liaison to be properly represented in convention marketing materials and programs.


5.            Identify and lead the effort to provide the sales and services team with highly effective sales tools including but not limited to sales collateral, sales presentations, customized bid proposals, and tradeshow/sales mission branding and imagery.


6.            Serve as the conduit between the sales and services team and marketing team.  Provide information on trends, messaging tactics, etc. through interaction with the sales team.  Likewise keep the sales team engaged in marketing activities and update-to-date on what’s new in the destination.


7.            Collaborate with Public Relations and Content teams to communicate convention messaging priorities and ensures synergy within the overall convention marketing plan. Fulfill content needs to create blogs and videos to support convention sales and services.


8.            Maintain overall responsibility for the website effectiveness and growth to achieve KPI goals. Work with Director of Digital Marketing to employ tactics to drive traffic and lead volume. Stay abreast of Web trends and innovation to keep site alive, fresh and definitely cutting edge and act as champion for inside the organization. 


9.            Manage M&C opt-in database and quarterly eNewsletter development and distribution, as well as other convention marketing communications, which includes working with sales to maintain the quality of the database.


10.          Provide marketing and attendance building support to citywide clients, and work with Destination Services team to fulfill client requests to ensure success.


11.          Negotiate, when necessary, along with the Vice President of Convention Sales, appropriate sponsorships and/or partnerships with major meetings industry organizations. Implement various aspects of agreements, both at events and in marketing collateral.


12.          Attend and participate with presentation support in M&C related meetings and events including but not limited to Convention Sales meetings, Convention Hotel Sales & Marketing Committee, etc. 


13.          Assists in the development of annual M&C budget; manage all Visit Orlando meetings and conventions marketing programs to budget. Handle/oversee paperwork relevant to expenditures, including purchase orders, invoices, etc.


14.          Ensure protection of the Orlando brand by enforcing Convention Marketing brand standards and serve as Brand ambassador.


15.          Collaborate with management of all Visit Orlando departments to create M&C marketing synergies and opportunities to the benefit of the Visit Orlando and its partners overall.



Convention Marketing Associate Representative





Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university with marketing concentration preferred; plus, a minimum of five years related marketing experience or equivalent combination of education/training and experience.  Previous work in convention/meetings sales industry and/or media buying/digital experience a strong plus.  Must have exceptional organizational and communications skills. 



35cwpm keyboarding.  Basic level proficiency or higher in MS Word and Outlook.



Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.



Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.



Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.



While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
