SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The Product Owner (PO) will play a central role in the development and rollout of a product and will be the primary advocate for end-users and have ownership to lead a cross-functional team that will work across multiple business units to develop, test, measure, and continuously improve the product. This team will utilize Agile, lean start-up methodology, and other innovation best-practices to anchor solution development with a solid understanding of user needs to accelerate speed-to-learning and successful launch.

 

A PO operates independently with a product development team, maybe on a smaller product or area, and under the leadership and mentorship of a more senior product owner/manager.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Able to collect and interpret data, and analyze product performance.
  • Able to do competitive assessments, market analysis, ideation and financial planning.
  • Able to create launch plans, got-to-market strategies and product marketing plans.
  • Act as the interface between product management and engineering delivery teams, with the primary task of translating business needs into actionable, engineering-facing requirements, captured as stories in the Agile.
  • Leads user story grooming sessions and ensures a proper understanding of the business problems, can effectively communicate customer needs, and ensures requirements are understood by the technical teams.
  • Provides clarity and detail necessary for product development to succeed.  Ability to answer questions and deliver direction regarding story definition, acceptance criteria, stakeholder needs and development priorities.
  • Manages the tracking of project planning and progress for the product development in a hybrid waterfall /agile environment with an outsourced and off-shore development model.
  • Understands and effectively applies story/requirement prioritization methods.
  • Must be comfortable working independently in a cross functional environment with minimal guidance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  • College degree – BA/BS required.
  • 8-10years of experience in launching consumer facing or commercial products.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Agile product management.
  • Experience with financial analysis, market analysis and product strategy.
  • Experience with product development life cycle (PDLC) involving data and backend services.
  • Experience with MS Project, MS Office suite and AGILE tools (JIRA, Rally).
  • Highly developed presentation skills and ability to tell data stories.
  • Experience following defined project management processes and reporting status to internal executive leadership.
