Do CMOs face an existential crisis? Raja Rajamannar, chief marketing and communications officer and president-healthcare business, at Mastercard, doesn't necessarily agree. But he concedes that marketers need a much greater sense of urgency about how fast their role is changing due to immense changes in technology.

Rajamannar calls it the "Fifth Paradigm," an onslaught of dozens of technologies ranging from robotics to AI that he says will have a dramatic impact on how CMOs marketers engage with their audiences and cultivate new talent. It's the central thesis of his new book, Quantum Marketing: Mastering The New Marketing Mindset For Tomorrow's Consumers.

In the latest episode of Champions of Growth, Rajamannar joins host Matthew Schwartz to share some major takeaways from his book, and what's in store for the brave new world of Web 3.0. He also chimes in about where marketing ROI is headed and recommends a "very productive exercise" that CMO should conduct with their C-suite colleagues that should help to disabuse senior managers about how to create a successful advertising or marketing campaign.
