ANA Statement on the American Privacy Rights Act Draft Released by Sen. Cantwell and Rep. McMorris Rodgers

Chris Oswald, the ANA's EVP, Head of Law, Ethics, and Government Relations issued the following statement on the American Privacy Rights Act draft released by Sen. Cantwell and Rep. McMorris Rodgers:

The ANA and its members strongly support national privacy legislation that codifies robust consumer protections, replaces our current unworkable patchwork of state privacy laws, and protects the vital role that digital advertising plays in our economy, including the constellation of popular consumer services it funds.

While we are continuing to review the discussion draft of the legislation, we have some notable concerns around some of the language, and we look forward to working with members of Congress from both parties to make any necessary adjustments to ensure it achieves its goals without harming the ad-supported digital economy and the millions of consumers and businesses that benefit from it.
