Ad Industry Submits Comments to California AG on CCPA

October 29, 2020

Yesterday, the advertising industry’s leading associations submitted comments to the California Office of the Attorney General regarding their third set of proposed modifications to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Those comments explain that the new proposed modifications restrict the “important flow of data” to consumers, creating a lack of participation in the digital economy. Additionally, the comments stress how the proposed regulations infringe upon the First and Fourteenth Amendment rights of businesses. Finally, the comments point out that business would be held to a higher standard than authorized agents.

These new proposed regulations come on top of a ballot initiative, the California Privacy Rights Act, which is likely to pass, creating a never-ending fight to comply with privacy law in California.
