ANA Again Calls for a Federal Privacy Law Following Failed Attempts to Pass Bills in Florida and Washington State

Washington D.C. (April 30, 2021) – The Association of National Advertisers (ANA) is again calling on Congress to set a national privacy standard by passing a strong, preemptive federal privacy law. Following the failure of bills this week by legislatures in Florida and Washington State, Congress now has a window to pass a federal privacy law this year before the continued balkanization of the privacy landscape leads to a lack of consistent protection for consumers and causes real economic harm to businesses. 

ANA Group EVP of Government Relations Dan Jaffe commented, “the pressure that state legislatures are feeling to pass privacy laws is evidence of the need for leadership from Congress on this very important issue,” adding further, “Congress must provide consistent federal privacy protections to consumers nationwide and create an environment where businesses can thrive.” 

ANA has long been a proponent of a national privacy law through its involvement with Privacy for America, of which it is a founding member.
