Bitcoin, Blockchains, and Cryptocurrencies: Separating the High Hopes from the Hype -- In 2017, the “cryptocurrency” market has exploded, going from a mere blip on the financial radar to a nearly three-quarter of a trillion dollar market cap in less than 12 months.  Yet Bitcoin, which has been around for a decade and accounts for about a third of that market, has been called a “fraud” by a major bank and criticized as an enabler of black market activity.  Recent “Initial Coin Offerings” (ICOs) have brought in upwards of $250 million for start-ups offering “token-based” projects, as investors pour in money based on the promise of a future where all currency is virtual, but the SEC has begun to crack down on some ICOs as securities offerings or scams.  And on top of all that, blockchain technology, the ledger system that underpins cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, is being heralded as a potential disruptor of many industries, yet actual roll-out of blockchain projects has been slow.

So amid all of this conflicting information, what is the true potential for blockchain technology and for cryptocurrencies, and what are the risks of adoption?  How will they impact traditional industries, including advertising?  Please join us for a webinar that will provide a primer on blockchain and cryptocurrencies, and then take a deeper look at both the promise and the problems arising from these exciting new technologies.
