The Digital Advertising Alliance Principles for Transparency and Consumer Control are anchors in our industry's self-regulatory initiative to provide meaningful consumer privacy protection while enabling innovation for more relevant advertising. Through the DAA program, brands have long provided notice, enhanced notice, choice tools for data collection & use for relevant ads on their websites and apps, as well as real-time transparency inside ads using the program's ubiquitous icon. As different laws pass, however, more recently there is a trend toward brands deploying Consent Management Platforms (CMP). CMPs and AdChoices accomplish different – but complementary – tasks. The DAA's Executive Director Lou Mastria will provide an update on current goings on to support "CMP CoMPlementarily" -- another pathway for transparency and consumer control via new tools and user interfaces.

Lou Mastria is the executive director of the Digital Advertising Alliance, where he leads U.S. and global efforts for self-regulation, consumer transparency, and choice in the delivery of interest-based advertising online. Previously, Mr. Mastria served as the chief privacy officer at both regulated and self-regulated organizations, including at the Direct Marketing Association (now part of the ANA), Canoe Ventures, and DataLogix. Mr. Mastria is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) through the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc.
