The New York City Marathon, scheduled for November 5, is one of the city's most iconic and diverse sporting events. The 26.2 mile race attracts 50,000 runners of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities from throughout the world. Ditto for the tens of thousands of spectators who line the city's streets to cheer on the runners and revel in the excitement.

Erika Katz, head of brand marketing and studio at New York Road Runners (NYRR)

But this year's event has some extra juice-marketing-wise: a rebranding campaign for New York Road Runners (NYRR) featuring a new design and visual identity. The campaign adds a twist to the organization's "It Will Move You" campaign, which rolled out in 2017, by focusing on the entirety of the marathon, not just the runners.

Erika Katz, head of brand marketing and studio at NYRR, joins host Matthew Schwartz to discuss the rebranding campaign, how to align a rebranding effort with the RFP process, and the growing importance of design development in advertising creative.
